Editing Cross Cutting
Editing Technique: Cross-Cutting
As I continue working in the production phase, I began focusing on cross-cutting using Adobe Premiere Pro. Cross-cutting is an editing technique where the film switches between two different scenes or perspectives, often happening at the same time. This is especially important in my project because the story is told through both the girl’s and the boy’s point of view.
To make this process easier, I organized my clips in a cross-way pattern on the timeline. This means I placed the girl’s clips and the boy’s clips in a way that allows me to clearly see where each scene will connect and transition. By doing this, I can easily move between the two perspectives and adjust the timing so the scenes flow smoothly together.
This technique will help build emotion and show the connection between both characters, especially during the texting and breakup scenes. As I continue editing, I will focus on making the transitions feel natural and meaningful so the audience can follow both sides of the story without confusion.
Challenges & Progress
One challenge I faced was making sure the timing between both perspectives matched up correctly. Since crosscutting relies on switching at the right moments, it takes careful planning to make sure the scenes feel connected rather than random. However, organizing my timeline in this structured way has made the process much easier and more efficient.
So far, this technique has helped me better visualize how the full story will come together. Moving forward, I plan to refine the cuts and improve the pacing, so the emotional impact of the scenes is stronger.
